Holford Metal Works

The metal journey

the story……

It all started with Dewight Holford, my grandfather. He taught blacksmithing classes at the ice-cream social in Roseberry Idaho every summer. At home in Middletown California, he was an amateur Ferrier. He would shoe his horse Libby and make nails and hooks and things. That’s were he showed me the basics when I was young.

I started out making the ugliest sword on the planet. I look back fondly on those hot summer days, cranking away at his old hand crank buffalo coal forge. It was a lot of work!

Fast forward 20 years.. After my grandfather had passed, I inherited that old coal forge. I made my first few knives with it out of the old leaf springs off of my Ford truck. Holford Metal Works was born.

High Carbon Steel and fire!

I started buying High Carbon Steel billets to make my family knives for Christmas. After that, I never looked back. Although I have over 20 years of culinary experience, I decide to take my life down another path. The path of Steel and fire!

I guess my love for knives has paid off. Knowing the proper weight, balance and feel of a knife is key to making quality blades.

I feel very honored to be able to carry on the memory of my grandpa! Here’s to you Gramps! Cheers!
